Families Forever

Air Force Families Forever (AFFF) is a long-term survivor program established to provide support to family members of deceased Regular Air Force (AF), U.S. Space Force (USSF) Guardians and Air Reserve Component (ARC) Airmen and who died in an Active, Inactive Duty for Training (IDT), or Annual Training (AT) status and whose relationship was established prior to the Airman/Guardian death. This includes RegAF, Guard, and reserve Airman/Guardians. Specific procedures are devised to provide support to eligible Next-of-Kin (NOK) through Military & Family Readiness Centers (M&FRCs) at installations closest to where the survivor resides.

To link families of fallen Airmen and Guardians to their Air and Space Force Family promoting Survivor Resilience, thereby fostering well-being and connectedness.

Who we serve

Next-of-Kin (NOK) of members of Regular Air Force, Space Force, and Reserve Component Airmen who died in an active duty, Inactive Duty Training (IDT) or annual training (AT) status.

Relationship must have been established prior to the Airman/Guardian's death.

SPOUSE - Widow (remaried or not), Widoer (remaried or not)

CHILD - Natural child, stepchild, adopted child

PARENT - Mother, father, stepmother, stepfather, mother through adoption, father through adoption, and foster parents who stood in loco parentis

SIBLING - Brother, sister, half-brother, half-sister, step brother, step sister

Gold Star and Surviving Family Members

Gold Star

Family members of Airman who died while engaged in combat or military conflict with an apposing foreign force or as a result of an international terrorist attack against the U.S.

Eligible to receive the Gold Star Lapel Button

Peacetime

Family member of an Airman who died under any circumstance, other than defined as Gold Star

Eligible to receive the Next-of Kin Lapel Button

Past Conflict

Family member of an Airman who is unaccounted-for from our Nation's Past Conflicts (i.e., Korean War, Cold War, Vietnam War, and other operations).

Supported in part by the Past Conflicts branch within the AF Casualty division. The Past Conflicts branch is the liaison between the Defense Prisoner of War / Missing in Action Accounting Agency (DPAA) and past conflict survivors.

May be eligible to attend DPAA hosted family update meetings throughout the country

Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS)

Established in 1994 for military survivors. Offers 24/7 information line, peer mentoring, publishes quarterly newsletters, hosts online community of survivors (chat rooms, message boards, and peer group discussion sites), military survivor seminars for adults and Good Grief Camps for children.
